Measure/weight
TCI Carriers description: Measure/weight
Measure/weight was created as a conversion factor for LCL sub-loads in order to bridge the difference between volume (measure) and weight. After all, 1 cubic metre of lead will weigh more than 1 cubic metre of feathers. So as to be able to charge this difference equally, a conversion factor was called into life.
Therefore, 1 seaborne freight LCL is set equal to 1,000 kg. For road transport, 1 cubic metre equals 333 kilos, (measuring 3 times), whereas in airfreight 1 cubic metres equals 167 kilos. The m/w tariff for seaborne freight is often also the minimum.
