For nine months out of the year, goods travelling to Australia and New Zealand may be subject to treatment against the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB). This little bug is not native to the continent and so must be eradicated.
The Australian and New Zealand departments of agriculture each year publish a list of High Risk Countries and of High Risk Goods, which must be treated either in the country of origin, or immediately upon arrival in the destination port. The most frequently used treatment method is heat treatment.
